Despite the Dark, Giant Squid Eyes See All
The enormous eyes of giant and colossal squid may help them spot predatory sperm whales in their dim undersea habitat, a new study finds.
These mysterious squid are tough to spot and even tougher to study in their natural habitat. But squid that have been caught or observed have huge, basketball-size peepers — three times the diameter of another other animal, including behemoths of similar size, such as swordfish.

Ethiopian girl guarded from gang rape by three lions.
“The girl had been taken by seven men who wanted to force her to marry one of them. She was beaten repeatedly. Then the lions chased off her captors. The three lions guarded her for about half a day. They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest.”
Then, Stuart Williams (the local wildlife ‘expert’) suggests that perhaps the lions mistook the 12 year old girl’s cries for a lion cub. Which seems awfully silly, considering that lions are perfectly capable of telling the apart the gazelles they eat from their own cubs, aren’t they?
Reblogging again.
They knew what they were doing. They have seen abuse like the one the poor girl written about in the article suffered for many years. They have adapted to their lands being poisoned and ravaged by war and “progress” and I’m sure they have also adapted to what humans do to one another and have in their own way learned what is right and what is wrong. Besides, they don’t eat or kill unless hungry or threatened and this little girl was no threat to them. Another great example of why the lion is the king of the fucking jungle!
Cases like this are actually quite common… with elephants. I’ve never heard of lions doing this. Amazing.
Totes thought she was a lion cub. I bet she’d been practising her lion cry for quite a while.
